A new edition of this volume was necessary for three reasons: the first edition was out of print but a few months after publication. In the meantime, both of the sets of rules, with which this volume is concerned, are available in new editions: the academic DCFR in the Outline Edition 2009, and the Acquis Principles in the revised and enlarged version “Contract II”; the latter also includes the chapter on remedies that was published in the first edition of this volume. The contributions to this second edition consider these developments in European Contract law. Moreover, the European Commission has drafted a Proposal for a Directive on Consumer Rights (COM (2008) 614 final), which contributed to the discussion on the coherency of European Contract law in the field of Consumer law. The preparations for this Proposal were noted in some contributions to the first edition; the second edition therefore responds to this Proposal from the European Commission.
